Biography

Salha Ibrahim Assaf, visual artist and visual arts trainer – Jeddah

Her experience spans more than 21 years between artistic practice and training. She is concerned with raising social issues through visual art, using colour, line and feeling to hold ideas and turn them into visual works that carry a message and stir contemplation and wonder in the viewer.

In her practice she leans towards the methods of surrealism and cubism, with an interest in experiment and in a range of materials and techniques, from drawing and sculpture to ceramics, leather, metal, glass and resin.

Artist statement

I reshape reality to make wonder of it.. and of wonder, a space for contemplation..

Through my work I seek to present visual ideas that stir wonder and contemplation in the viewer, by blending the surrealist and cubist schools and reshaping reality in an unfamiliar way..

— Salha Alassaf

Practice

Style
Surrealist – Cubist – Expressionist
Themes
A recurring idea in my work is to deliver a message or a visual proposition that stirs wonder in the viewer and moves them to contemplate and to question. In my treatment I lean towards methods from the surrealist and cubist schools, which lets me reshape reality and present it in an unfamiliar form.
