About the Work

This work contemplates the spiritual residue of pilgrimage rather than the physical representation of place. The Kaaba emerges as a point of stillness within a shifting field of forms that continuously appear and dissolve, while Arabic letterforms surface from the layered ground as faint echoes of prayers and passing memories.

The work reflects on what remains after the moment has passed—when the body departs from a place, yet its presence endures as an imprint within memory.

About the Artist

Maysa Suliman

Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia

Maysa Suliman is a Saudi contemporary artist whose practice explores collective memory, inherited cultural structures, and the traces left by time, pressure, and passage. Working primarily through abstraction, she builds tactile surfaces by hand using gesso, acrylic, and mixed media, repeatedly layering, sanding, erasing, and rupturing the material. Her work draws from customs, traditions, and cultural memory, examining tensions between fragility and resilience, silence and expression, giving and boundaries, and what disappears versus what remains.
