About the Work

The artist Maysa Suliman guides the collective memory to a child’s first moment of wonder — that distant child taking eager steps into the gates of an amusement park. A parallel, imagined world comes alive, one heard in his mother’s readings, his teacher’s stories, and the pages of novels. The child envisions and recreates these individual experiences in the courtyards and streets, where imagination and play converge.

All these dreams and adventures unite in a thrilling scene as he crosses into this vibrant, virtual city, bursting with colors and shapes. The feeling of awe upon entering is unmatched — it is joy, difference, and the very essence of discovery.

About the Artist

Maysa Suliman

Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia

Maysa Suliman is a Saudi contemporary artist whose practice explores collective memory, inherited cultural structures, and the traces left by time, pressure, and passage. Working primarily through abstraction, she builds tactile surfaces by hand using gesso, acrylic, and mixed media, repeatedly layering, sanding, erasing, and rupturing the material. Her work draws from customs, traditions, and cultural memory, examining tensions between fragility and resilience, silence and expression, giving and boundaries, and what disappears versus what remains.
